Woke up to sun and gentle breeze. Civilised breakfast then off to the beach in the dinghy.
After all going in the sea, the term swimming might be exaggerating, which for the hard core among us was.. fresh and bracing and for the snow flakes.. F…ing freezing, thoughts were on acquiring some excellent food for the bbq later, surely there has to be amazing seafood and meat on the Islands.
Walking past the non moving co-op queue, nothing new there, we found the only butcher on the Island, great!
“Theres no meat today, I do have meat but I’m not butchering until Monday, so no meat, end of!”
Oh, what about any fish then?
“No, no fish, unless you can find a fisherman and buy off the boat” no fish then.
Ok chaps, F all for the bbq then tonight.
Mitch turned the prospect of a F all bbq into a feast that night by securing some Baxter rib eye and sirloin steaks from a farm stall selling fresh veg and who just happened to own a farm which bred Baxters. Oh yes, he managed to get a number for a lobster fisherman aswell but….. he wasn’t going out until Tuesday….
So me and Ado staggered back to Nellie to get this feast in the fridge whilst Mitch and John went ahead to secure our table at the Atlantic pub… time..1200. Well this is covid times after all…!
3 pints later a walk around the Island was in order, very enjoyable around the battery and very interesting. Obviously popped into the Mermaid pub before cruising back to Nellie in the dinghy.
The bbq did not disappoint, the steaks, food and company all excellent. After a lottery draw on which film to watch, Midnight Cowboy was drawn, I’m sure the rest of the anchorage enjoyed it aswell…. its amazing how sound travels on water!!
